Rab

The island of Rab is located in the centre of the Kvarner archipelago – it is the island of sun, sea, and love, with a tourist tradition longer than 130 years. With many small picturesque coves, but also many world famous beaches (like Paradise Beach, Pudarica, Mel, Škver, Suha Punta, etc.), Rab is truly a fortunate island (Felix Arba). Thanks to the crystal clear, warm, and shallow sea, Rab is a destination for the entire family, and anyone can find a beach for themselves there – nude beaches, solitary coves, beaches for dogs, beaches for singles, or beaches with various tourist and entertainment events.

With its rich history and considerable tradition, Rab is an interesting destination for art, history, and archaeology enthusiasts. The first reliable information regarding the earliest history is from the ancient Greek travel accounts from as far back as 4th century B.C., and the island was inhabited by Illyrian peoples in the year 350, when it became a Roman municipium and an important centre on the eastern coast of the Adriatic called Felix Arba (Arb- covered in forests, dark, green). Many churches in the town itself, but also throughout the island, speak of religious tradition, but also of civilisation, cultural, and artistic achievements. The convents, churches, palaces, social buildings, squares, and lodges of Rab are gathering places, court locations, and markets, and they speak of a highly developed social centre. Many famous individuals were born on Rab, including the stonemason from Rab, Saint Marin, who went to the Apennine Peninsula and founded the Republic of San Marino in the 4th century. Today Saint Marin is the protector of Lopar and the pride of all the people from Rab.
